Race Report

#67: 01/20/2019 — Carlsbad Marathon (California 5:05:40)

My kind of race… along the ocean, watching the sunrise!

This is my second time running the Carlsbad Marathon. Last winter, when we chased warmer weather races, it backfired. The races were TOO hot! This winter, we are seeking the 50-60 degree race locations. Much more maneagable! Carlsbad Marathon is good for all… warm weather and ocean!

We flew in on Friday night and decided to stay IN Carlsbad. We stayed at the Sheraton. It was a host hotel. It was okay. It was like a conference center, so we had to drive to our room. We loved the pool and palm trees! 🌴

The race logistics were super easy. This was a half and a full. The full started about an hour before the full. They have changed the course since I ran this last. It used to be an out and back. Now it’s a bunch of loops on the ocean. I typically don’t like the loops, but the ocean and and warm weather make it okay in January!

This was a beautiful beach to run along. We had about 544 foot of elevation gain and 571 foot of loss. It was 52 degrees throughout the whole race. Perfect!

When the race was over, we enjoyed our time relaxing at the beach and pool.
