Time: PERSONAL WORST
Conditions: HOT AS BALLS WITH NO OXYGEN
Summary: Elevation. Shitty race. This was a small, hard race. Elevation started at 8,300 feet and had a total elevation gain/loss of 1,200 throughout the race. There were not enough bathrooms. One bathroom first 13 miles, one bathroom 2nd 13 miles. There were not enough aid stations, and for a flat-lander, there was not enough oxygen. The course was on a busy highway between cones. Oh yeah, it was also hot. Just an overall bad experience. I called babe at mile 11 crying because it was so hard with no oxygen, I couldn’t run. Babe reminded me that in the state of New Mexico, that’s all I’m getting–elevation races. I decided that I was walking a marathon. The course time limit was 6:30. At about mile 13, I knew that I was at risk in not finishing during the time limit. I walked and walked and walked. I came in third from last with 9 minutes to spare. What an awful experience. You truly know what you’re made of when you do something shitty like this. Elevation races are not for me.
